# Tips

> Enable tip prompts on the customer-facing payment screen, choose between percentage or fixed-amount presets, and configure up to four tip options.

Enabling tips adds a prompt on the customer-facing payment screen where the customer selects or enters a tip amount before their card is charged. Tips can be configured as percentage-based or fixed-amount presets, with up to four options displayed.

## How to get here

**Entities** → find the Entity → **Manage** → **Settings** → **Tips** tab.

## Configure tips

    From the **Settings** page, click the **Tips** tab.

  <Step title="Enable tips">
    Toggle **Ask for tips** on.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select the tip type">
    Choose **Percentage** to show tip options as a percentage of the subtotal, or **Amount** to show fixed dollar amounts.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter tip values">
    Enter up to four tip values. The fourth option is optional — if left blank, it will not appear on the payment prompt.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Save**.

## Tip on pre-tax amount

If regional laws require that tips be calculated on the subtotal before tax, enable **Tip on Pre-Tax Amount**. When enabled, the tip prompt appears after tax is displayed and the tip is calculated against the pre-tax subtotal rather than the total.

## Notes

<Warning>
  The fourth tip option is not compatible with the **Poynt C** device. If the merchant uses a Poynt C, leave the fourth value blank or use only three tip options.
